Stradbroke Island stretches from the Gold Coast to the South Passage bar at the southern end of Moreton Island. There is a beautiful waterway that runs inside the island and provides a navigable passage all the way from the Gold Coast to Moreton Bay. Along its route are a number of other smaller islands, some of which are inhabited. On the ocean side is the magnificent ocean beach. There are two islands that make up this coastal barrier. They are North Stradbroke island and South Stradbroke island and they are separated from each other at the Juminpin bar.
On North Stradbroke island are the towns of Amity and Dunwich are the two main towns on the island and there is quite a bit of holiday accommodation to choose from. On South Stradbroke island, the Couran Cove resort is very popular.
