Orpheus Island

Orpheus Island is one of those hidden gems that often goes under the radar when tourists are considering their Queensland Island holiday options because the higher profile and larger resorts are far better known. It is a bad mistake for anyone wanting to stay in a five star island resort not to investigate what Orpheus Island has to offer. The island can only be accessed by seaplane from Townsville. There are no day guests or visitors, limited numbers of guests and no TV or mobile phone coverage. It is the ideal place to escape the modern world and its pressures and holiday in a superb location that is cut off from the rest of the world.

The resort is located on a beautiful protected bay that is lined by a lovely beach. Tropical gardens that surround the resort run right to the beachfront and all the accommodation and service buildings are located right on the beachfront. The resorts wharf is located right in front of the restaurant which is open to the sea on its north east side. The restaurant is superb and one of the islands greatest attractions. The food at Orpheus Island is widely reputed to be the best on any Australian island resort and a degustation menu is a feature of the resort.

Orpheus Island Resort

Orpheus island has its own fringing reef and the coral here is spectacular. In the adjoining bay is a research station maintained by the James Cook University in Townsville. They have conducted research on the local coral reefs for many years and the giant clam is a specialty of this research. You can visit the research station and snorkel over the reefs. Orpheus Island is also a great place to go bushwalking and the views over the surrounding islands and waterways can be quite spectacular. When you stay on Orpheus Island, you will enjoy beautiful accommodation that has everything imaginable to cater to a relaxing stay. Guest numbers are limited with only 21 rooms available for guests. As you would imagine, there is a beautiful swimming pool and plenty of places to hide away and just relax.

Before you choose your destination for your next island holiday, be sure to investigate the possibility of staying at Orpheus Island resort.
