North Queensland Islands

The island resorts that lie in the tropical north of Queensland are some of the most popular with international visitors. Lizard Island is the most northerly of these islands and is in a very remote location. Access is by air from Cairns to the islands airstrip. Everything there is five star and the diving and fishing provide the main attractions. Green island is a small resort located on a small coral atoll which lies close to Cairns. The resort is five star but only caters for limited numbers of guests which reduces the impact of the resort on the fragile ecosystems.

Dunk Island and Bedarra Island both lie off Mission Beach but target very different markets. Bedarra island is a small haven for the wealthy while Dunk island provides dozens of family activities and is popular in the domestic family holiday market. Orpheus Island caters to a similar market as Bedarra island while Magnetic Island has many permanent residents as well as holiday resorts. it is a suburb of Townsville and has regular ferry services to take visitors to and fro.
