Long Island
In the Whitsundays, Long Island is one of the few that offers you a choice of resorts to stay at. They are all located on the inshore or western side of the island and each has its own private bay and beach. Long Island, like its name suggests is a long narrow island that runs parallel to the coast of the adjacent mainland. The narrow channel that separates them is known for strong tidal flows and there are fringing coral reefs. This means that the quiet bays on which the resorts are located are ideal for water sports including sailing, fishing, snorkeling and diving.Long island is accessed by regular launch transfers from both the mainland and Hamilton Island. helicopter transfers are also available from both of theses locations. At the southern end of the island is paradise bay Eco Escape which is a small resort that caters for the upper end of the market. The resort only caters for 16 guests and relies on all renewable services like solar electricity and rain water. It features a beautiful restaurant and excellent water sports including sailing trips on their own catamaran. The island is a national park and bush walking is popular here. The central ridge of the island provides a beautiful walking trail that will take you the length of the island and provides spectacular views over the Whitsunday Islands.
Long Island resort, previously known as Club Crocodile resort, is the largest resort on Long Island. It caters to the family market and is rated at three and a half stars. The resort has a kids club and excellent facilities to entertain children so that mum and dad can have a break. There is a beautiful beach that is lined by mature coconut palms and they provide an idyllic holiday atmosphere. Here, a hammock and a good book can provide some of the most relaxing days of your life. Fringing coral reefs provide excellent snorkeling and lots of sailing and paddle boats are available to enjoy.Day tours are available to visit the outer reef and also to Whitehaven Beach and some of the other resorts. Peppers Palm Bay resort is the most exclusive resort on Long Island. It has only 24 individual accommodation bures that line the beachfront. Service is five star and the restaurant is superb. Peppers Palm Bay has no telephones, no TV and no worries. It has a reputation for being one of the most relaxing destinations in the Whitsundays and the surroundings are superb. You stay in the middle of a coconut grove and your villa faces the beach and the beautiful waters of the Whitsunday Passage. It is only a very short helicopter ride from either Hamilton Island or the mainland. No matter which one of these three resorts on Long Island takes your fancy, you will be sure to have a great holiday in the Queensland islands. »» Long Island |
