The southern most island resort in the Whitsundays is Brampton Island. It lies of the coast just north of the city of Mackay which is the commercial center of the Whitsundays region. Brampton Island itself is a large continental island and is zoned as a national park. The resort is situated on the northern side of the island so it is protected from prevailing trade winds. The islands are surrounded by fringing reefs and there are many protected bays and beaches. Brampton Island also has some interesting Melaleuca forests and many bush walking trails that circumnavigate the island. The resort can be accessed by ferry from Mackay or by air from Mackay or Hamilton Island. There is a light airstrip on the island that caters for guests.
As of mid 2010, the resort has recently been sold by the Voyagers group and purchased by the United Petroleum group. it has undergone a full renovation and is now a popular island holiday destination. The resort is famous for its magnificent ocean front swimming pool and its beautiful location overlooking the Coral Sea. The beach is always busy with guests activities like catamaran sailing, paddle skis, jet ski safaris and windsurfers. Other activities include diving and snorkeling and fishing charters.
